Stunt Race Review

Arcade racing games have always thrived on exaggeration. From impossible jumps to gravity-defying loops, the genre has rarely concerned itself with traditional realism. Instead, it focuses on delivering excitement, spectacle, and pure driving adrenaline. Stunt Race, developed and published by Welding Byte, leans fully into that philosophy.

Rather than simply racing from point A to point B, Stunt Race turns every track into a playground suspended high above a sprawling city skyline. Massive ramps launch vehicles into the clouds, twisting loops challenge players’ reflexes, and floating platforms demand precise control to avoid a spectacular crash.

The concept draws clear inspiration from classic stunt-focused racers like Stunt Car Racer, but adds modern presentation and physics-based destruction to give the experience a cinematic edge. Cars dent, deform, and shatter when things go wrong — and in a game built around extreme aerial manoeuvres, things go wrong quite often.

While Stunt Race delivers plenty of dramatic crashes and high-altitude thrills, the experience is ultimately defined by how well its stunt mechanics translate into engaging gameplay.

Gameplay

The central mechanic of Stunt Race is performing aerial tricks while navigating dangerous tracks that float far above the city below.

Driving itself is intentionally accessible. The handling model leans heavily towards arcade-style control, allowing players to accelerate quickly and maintain stability even when navigating tight curves or narrow platforms. This accessibility ensures players can focus more on performing stunts than on overly complicated vehicle physics.

Where the game distinguishes itself is during airborne moments. Once launched off a ramp or catapulted through the air, players can rotate their vehicles to perform flips, spins, and rotations. Successfully landing these tricks earns points, encouraging players to push their cars to the limit.

The system creates a satisfying risk-reward dynamic. Attempting larger rotations can generate huge scores, but misjudging the landing angle often leads to catastrophic crashes.

Fortunately, the game embraces these failures with style. Watching your car slam into the track, crumple under the impact, and slide across the asphalt in a shower of sparks is almost as entertaining as landing the stunt perfectly.

Physics-Based Damage

One of Stunt Race’s standout features is its damage system.

Rather than simply resetting the car after a crash, the game visually tracks every impact. Vehicles dent, panels buckle, and windows shatter, depending on the severity of the collision. Repeated crashes gradually transform your once-pristine racer into a battered wreck.

This system adds an extra layer of tension to each run. While spectacular crashes are part of the fun, accumulating too much damage can make maintaining control more difficult.

The destruction also contributes to the game’s cinematic feel. Watching a car flip through the air and slam into a track barrier before continuing the race with a visibly damaged chassis adds a sense of chaotic realism rarely seen in arcade racers.

Game Modes

Stunt Race offers three primary modes, each providing a different way to engage with the stunt-based gameplay.

Stunt Race Mode

This is the main attraction. In this mode, players race across suspended tracks featuring loops, rings, ramps, and obstacles. The aim is to reach the finish line while performing as many high-scoring tricks as possible.

Tracks are designed to encourage experimentation, offering multiple opportunities to launch your car into the air and attempt increasingly daring manoeuvres.

Straight Road Mode

This mode strips away the complex track layouts in favour of pure speed. Players accelerate down an endless highway before launching off a massive ramp at the end.

The challenge here lies in building maximum momentum and performing spectacular mid-air rotations during the jump. It’s a simpler mode but surprisingly addictive, particularly for players chasing high scores.

Playground Mode

Playground Mode is a sandbox environment where players can experiment freely with ramps and stunt setups. Without the pressure of completing races or reaching specific goals, it encourages creativity and experimentation.

It’s particularly useful for mastering the game’s trick mechanics before tackling the more demanding courses.

Track Design

The tracks themselves are among the game’s strongest elements.

Suspended high above the city skyline, each course features gravity-defying loops, floating platforms, and narrow pathways that demand careful driving. The sense of height adds tension to every race, as a single miscalculated turn can send your vehicle plummeting off the track.

Rings suspended in mid-air serve as stunt checkpoints, rewarding players who take risks and aim for more challenging routes.

However, track variety is somewhat limited. While the environments are visually impressive, many tracks share similar design elements. Over time, the repeated reliance on loops and ramps can make some races feel slightly familiar.

A larger pool of environmental themes or more diverse track mechanics could have added additional depth.

Vehicles

The game features four vehicles, each with slightly different handling.

While the selection is relatively small, each car feels distinct enough to encourage experimentation. Some vehicles prioritise speed and stability, while others are better suited to executing aerial tricks.

Because the stunt system forms the core of the gameplay, the differences between vehicles tend to influence how players approach each track.

That said, players hoping for a large roster of cars may find the selection somewhat limited.

Visuals and Audio

Visually, Stunt Race presents a cinematic experience. The city skyline beneath the floating tracks glows with vibrant lighting effects, creating a striking sense of scale and altitude.

Dynamic lighting enhances the atmosphere, particularly during sunset or night-time races, when reflections shimmer across the track surfaces.

Vehicle models look impressive, especially as the damage system deforms them after crashes.

The soundtrack features energetic electronic music that complements the fast-paced action. While not particularly memorable, it effectively maintains the high-energy tone of the experience.

Sound effects, particularly collisions and stunt landings, deliver satisfying feedback that reinforces the physical impact of each moment.

Replayability

Replayability largely centres on score-chasing.

Because larger, more stylish tricks yield higher scores, players are encouraged to revisit tracks and attempt increasingly risky manoeuvres. Perfecting a stunt sequence can be surprisingly satisfying.

However, beyond improving scores and experimenting with different vehicles, the game offers limited long-term progression.

Additional unlockables, challenge modes, or track variations could have extended the experience further.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Satisfying stunt mechanics and aerial trick system
  • Impressive physics-based vehicle damage
  • Cinematic presentation with dramatic city skyline tracks
  • Accessible arcade-style handling
  • Multiple modes including sandbox Playground

Cons

  • Limited vehicle selection
  • Track variety could be greater
  • Score-focused progression may feel repetitive
  • Lacks deeper long-term content

Final Verdict

Stunt Race delivers exactly what its title promises: fast cars, huge ramps, and gravity-defying stunt action. Welding Byte has created an arcade racer that prioritises spectacle and experimentation, letting players push their vehicles into increasingly ridiculous aerial manoeuvres.

The game’s physics-based damage system adds a layer of visual drama rarely seen in stunt-focused racers, making every crash feel impactful and every successful landing feel earned.

While the limited track variety and modest content prevent it from reaching the heights of the genre’s best titles, the core stunt mechanics remain enjoyable throughout.

For players looking for a stylish arcade racer that emphasises creativity and spectacle over strict competition, Stunt Race offers a fun — if slightly short-lived — thrill ride.
